"In these things (of nature) there is a deep meaning, but if we try to express it, we forget the words." -Toenmei

Few things connect us to nature like painting. Through it, we can explore the myriad expressions of he human heart. Chinese philosophy believed everything we need to learn is observable in nature. If one paid careful enough attention, all wisdom would reveal itself through a contemplation of the natural cycles in the natural world. What better way to test this theory than through landscape painting?

Standing in silent communion with the trees, mosses, grass, and animals, the painter can see a great deal. Strolling through a park, or farm, or any other unspoiled open space brings up so many emotions, many for which I do not have the words. The images themselves are the best I can do to express the delicacy, strength, and wonder of these feelings.

In picking a subject, I look for something that resonates with my own feeling and thought. If I can maintain that feeling long enough to make the painting, I might succeed in sharing what I found with a few strokes of paint where words fail.
